2019 WA Brain Bee Finals
Who can attend?
Invitations to attend the event are only to the student and 2 accompanying adults (usually a teacher or parent responsible for a group of students). If you believe special circumstances require more than 2 supervising adults please contact the event administrator, A/Prof Jenny Rodger, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to seek an exemption.
- Supervising Adult- The supervising adult is responsible for the student(s) for the entire day and must remain with them at each event. Students without a supervising adult will not be permitted to attend the event. Regrettably, for Occupational Health and Safety reasons, students who turn up on the day without a supervising adult attending the entire event with them will have to be turned away.
- Siblings and additional family members attending- We regret this is not possible logistically or financially. Please make sure your students are aware of these restrictions. Whilst we would very much like to be in a position to welcome along parents and siblings of all students competing in the WA Brain Bee State Finals, unfortunately venue and financial constraints prohibit this.
Study guide
Questions for Round 2 will be based on the information contained in the 2012 edition of the book Brain Facts. A Primer on the Brain and Nervous System by the Society for Neuroscience (SFN).

Media Consent
As always, our UWA photographer and the media will be invited to cover the State Finals. We encourage you to make sure that parents/legal guardians are aware of this. Media coverage is an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of students in this year's WA State Finals and to encourage more schools and students to participate in the Brain Bee Challenge next year. A separate media consent form must be received for each attending student.
Catering
Morning tea and lunch will be provided, by the University of Western Australia (UWA), to all students and accompanying adults registered as attending the WA State Finals at UWA. We will cater for vegetarians and meat eaters.
If your students or their supervising adult have special dietary requirements other than vegetarian, we ask that they bring their own morning tea and lunch, or purchase food on campus.
Lab Tours
Your students will be participating in interactive lab tours and activities at the event and will be advised as to the time of the sessions they are attending on the day of the event. The tours will include a display from the anatomy museum where students will be shown human anatomical specimens. The students will be exposed to bottled human specimens including head specimens. A WA Anatomy Tour Consent Form must be received for each attending student and supervisor.
For students who do not have permission to attend the Anatomy tour, alternative arrangements will be made so that they can still benefit from the activities.
