Peter Goodenough Memorial Lecture, 8 April 2010. Queensland Brain Institute (QBI). Dr Sarah Caddick (Principal Neuroscience Advisor to Lord Sainsbury - the Gatsby Foundation), will talk on "Philanthropy and the Brain: Making Connections". The challenge that faces neuroscience in the coming decades is to obtain a coherent and unified view of the relationship between gene activity, neural circuit function and behaviour. Achieving this goal will require an effective merger of old and new technology and a culture of innovation and collaboration between neuroscientists around the world. This effort is one that every country should be a part of and ambitious philanthropy from all stakeholders will be essential to provide resources that protect the pursuit of an ambitious and long-term scientific goal. The lecture is named in honour of the late Mr Peter Goodenough, a QBI benefactor, whose personal battle with motor neuron disease led to an inspirational bequest for scientific research into MND.
