Application
ACAN Application
ACAN 2011 will be held from Sunday 27 March to Saturday 16 April 2011.
Applications for ACAN 2011 will open in November 2010. Application instructions are expected to be similar to those for ACAN 2010, listed below.
To apply, you must satisfy the following requirements:
- be either a PhD student or Postdoctoral Fellow/Junior Faculty (preferably no more than 5 years after completing your PhD), and
- preferably be a full-time resident of Australia or NZ (but you do not need to be a citizen or permanent resident of those countries). However, a small number of applicants based in other countries may be accepted.
Two places are reserved for students working at an institute in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Australia and NZ). Each of these will be funded by a Fellowship from the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) and the Australian Neuroscience Society (ANS). If you are applying for one of the IBRO/ANS-sponsored places on ACAN 2010, please apply through the IBRO Courses website.
Twelve students will be selected. Successful applicants will be required to pay a subsidised fee of A$3000 (incl GST) to attend the course. This will cover all accommodation, meals, tuition and laboratory work. Scholarships are available.
Applications must be emailed to the ACAN Director (John.Bekkers@anu.edu.au) with the following attachments:
- a completed application form
- a curriculum vitae
- a letter of recommendation from your PhD supervisor or the head of your laboratory
- a cover letter clearly stating what you hope to gain from the course and how it will assist your future research. This should be spelled out in detail, as if writing a mini-grant application. It is not sufficient to simply state that you wish to learn new techniques.
